Attempts are being made to export Kurdistan handwoven carpets to Iraq and Europe

The Deputy Coordinator of Economic Affairs of the Governor of Kurdistan said: The export of handmade carpets of the province to the Kurdistan region of Iraq and then to European countries is one of the plans that we have had meetings with the other side in this regard so far and we hope to witness its realization.

According to the public relations report of the Union of Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters of Iran, quoted by IRNA, Ali Nouri stated at the opening of the Kurdistan handwoven carpet registration agency held in Sanandaj: Considering the existing capacities in the production of handwoven carpets in the province, a special look There is also something about the prosperity and development of this art.

Pointing out that over 90,000 hand-woven carpet weavers are working in this province, he added: 200,000 square meters of hand-woven carpets are produced in the province every year, and this shows the potential of producing this valuable product in this region.

Nouri mentioned the position of hand-woven carpets in the 90s not only in Kurdistan but also in the whole country and said: In those years, more than 500 million dollars of hand-woven carpets were exported, which was reduced to less than 40 million dollars due to the cruel sanctions of global arrogance. The dollar has arrived.

Pointing out that today the countries of the second and third categories of the carpet industry export the most of this precious product, he said: we should prioritize and try to restore the lost position of this industry in the province.

The Deputy Governor of Kurdistan’s economic affairs coordination said: We have held discussions with the Iraqi Kurdistan region officials regarding the export of handwoven carpets from the region to European countries, and an agreement has been signed with the country’s relief committee regarding the export of this product.

Nouri added: In addition to following up on issues related to the export of handwoven carpets, we should put the holding of specialized meetings and international and national conferences on the agenda so that the province can get out of the inertia in the carpet industry.

Director General of Industry, Mines and Trade of Kurdistan also pointed out that handwoven carpet industry is one of the unique capacities of the province and stated: Export-oriented production of handwoven carpets is one of the plans of the province.

Bakhtiar Khalighi continued: In line with the implementation of the mentioned program, we needed to issue hand-woven carpet birth certificates, which was established today with the opening of the relevant agency.

He added: The Agency for Issuing Handmade Carpet Certificates has been set up in the province in order to support economic activists in the field of carpets and artists in this field.

The Director General of Industry, Mines and Trade of Kurdistan stated that according to the law against smuggling of goods and currency, every product produced in the country must have an tracking code, and reminded: From today, a license to issue a birth certificate for handwoven carpet brokers in the province has been issued. This center has the capacity to cover the west of the country.

Khaleghi stated that with the opening of this center, the authenticity of the hand-woven carpet can be easily confirmed, and said: Currently, 50,000 carpet weavers of the province have registered and are members of the hand-woven carpet organizations.
